How can I get my axel more consistent?

Yesterday at my lessons, I was on the harness (without my coach actually lifting me up) and I landed my axel three times. I was wondering how I could get it more consistent. I could use some off-ice tips and on-ice exercises(can't do axel on-ice without my coach yet). Also, are there any good stretches to get your jump higher and make your spiral higher?
