Thoughts on psychedelics in religious ceremonies? Should those substances be legal for everyone?

I read an old old memo when I was in the military that in a nutshell recommended banning all psychedelics, LSD in particular, because it caused the user to experience the world in a manner that allowed him to challenge the almighty authority of the United States Government.
